What is rock wool?

Rock wool originated in Hawaii. After the first volcanic eruption in Hawaii Island, the residents on the island found wisps of melted soft rock on the ground, which is the rock wool fiber initially recognized by human beings. The production process of rock wool actually simulates the natural process of the volcanic eruption in Hawaii.

Rock wool products are mainly made of high-quality basalt and dolomite, which are melted at a high temperature above 1450 ℃ The fiber is made by high-speed centrifugation with the international advanced four-axis centrifuge. At the same time, a certain amount of binder, dust-proof oil and water repellent agent are sprayed into the fiber. After being collected by the cotton collector, the process of pendulum method and three-dimensional cotton laying is used to solidify and cut rock wool products of different specifications and uses.

The artificial inorganic fiber made of rock wool board by high-temperature melting has the characteristics of lightweight, small thermal conductivity, heat absorption and non-combustion. The initial development is a common application type in buildings, and it is mostly used in industrial buildings, which should comply with the provisions of the application types and basic requirements of building thermal insulation materials [1].

The main features are as follows:

1. Fire prevention

The raw material of the rock wool board for the external wall is natural volcanic rock, which is a non-combustible building material and fireproof material.

Main fire protection characteristics:

⊙ it has the highest fire protection level A1, which can effectively prevent the spread of fire.

⊙ the size is very stable and will not stretch, shrink or deform in a fire.

⊙ high-temperature resistance, a melting point higher than 1000 ℃.

⊙ no smoke or burning droplets/debris in the fire.

⊙ materials and gases harmful to the environment will not be released in the fire.

2. Thermal insulation

The fiber of the outer wall rock wool board is slender and flexible, and the content of the slag ball is low. Therefore, it has low thermal conductivity and excellent thermal insulation effect.

3. Sound absorption and noise reduction

Rock wool is an ideal sound insulation material. A large number of slender fibers form a porous connection structure, which determines that Shike rock wool is excellent sound absorption and noise reduction material.

4. Hydrophobicity

The hydrophobic rate of water repellent rock wool products can reach 99.9%, the water absorption rate is very low, and there is no capillary penetration.

5. Moisture resistance

The moisture absorption rate of rock wool is less than 0.2% in a large relative humidity environment, and the mass moisture absorption rate is less than 0.3% according to the astmc1104 or astm1104m method.

6. Non-corrosive

The chemical properties of rock wool are stable, pH value is 7-8, neutral or weak alkaline

Aluminum and other metal materials have no corrosion.

Safety and environmental protection

Rock wool does not contain asbestos, CFC, HFC, HCFC, and other harmful substances. It will not corrode or produce mildew and bacteria. (Rockwool has been recognized as a non-carcinogen by the International Cancer Research Authority)
